Last week, leaders of the R-series project took time to acknowledge the impressive contributions of departments across NPA in delivering the R-series passport, one of the most challenging and ambitious projects NPA has ever undertaken.
Principal Technical Officer Michael Griggs delivered a compelling story about the development of the R-series passport, a six-year project that involved the contributions of many across the business.
"This project was really characterised by its people, and the many contributions that everyone made in their own area of expertise to help create a remarkable passport," said Michael Griggs, Principal Technical Officer.
In recognition of this contribution, CEO, Malcolm McDowell presented a framed uncut passport in sheet to Chief Technical Officer Dean McGrath, who received the frame on behalf of all staff. The plaque reads:

ALL DEPARTMENTS WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THE DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND MANUFACTURE OF THE R-SERIES PASSPORT
With a broad brief from the APO, the R-series project team essentially began with a blank sheet of paper and brainstormed their way to a range of design and security options that pushed NPA beyond its capability at that time. By grounding these ideas in reality, what emerged from the process was a number of novel and innovative ways that took the design aesthetic and security feature integration of the Australian passport into a new realm.
"This blue-sky thinking was essential in allowing us to realise the full potential of this book. When we consider what we set out to achieve in this project there were a number of individuals who took responsibility to really drive this project forward and we thank them for their commitment," said Dean.
“It’s important to put this project in perspective - the successful delivery of the R-series passport is one of this organisation’s greatest achievements. It’s up there with the delivery of the first polymer banknote.”
The acknowledgement award will be proudly displayed in the elevator lobby area on the ground floor of the NPA Production Building.

NPA RECONOCE LA CONTRIBUCIÓN DEL PERSONAL AL PASAPORTE DE LA SERIE R
La semana pasada, los líderes del proyecto de la serie R tomaron el tiempo para reconocer las impresionantes contribuciones de los departamentos de todo NPA en la entrega del pasaporte de la serie R, uno de los proyectos más desafiantes y ambiciosos que NPA haya emprendido.

Con instrucciones poco restrictivas de la Oficina de Pasaportes Australiana (APO por sus siglas en inglés), el equipo del proyecto de la serie R esencialmente comenzó con una hoja de papel en blanco y realizó una lluvia de ideas sobre una variedad de opciones de diseño y seguridad que llevaron a NPA más allá de su capacidad en ese momento. Al basar estas ideas en la realidad, lo que surgió del proceso fue una serie de formas novedosas e innovadoras que llevaron la integración de la estética del diseño y las características de seguridad del pasaporte australiano a un nuevo ámbito.
"Esta lluvia de ideas fue esencial para permitirnos aprovechar todo el potencial de este libro. Cuando consideramos lo que nos propusimos lograr en este proyecto, hubo una serie de personas que asumieron la responsabilidad de impulsar realmente este proyecto hacia adelante y agradecemos su compromiso", dijo Dean.
“Es importante poner este proyecto en perspectiva: la entrega exitosa del pasaporte de la serie R es uno de los mayores logros de esta organización. Está a la altura de la entrega del primer billete de polímero”.
El premio de reconocimiento se exhibirá con orgullo en el área del vestíbulo del ascensor en la planta baja del edificio de producción de NPA.
