After the International Bank Note Society (IBNS) announced earlier this year that the Philippines new polymer 1000-Piso had been crowned the 2022 Banknote of the Year, the Melbourne branch of the IBNS this week formally presented the award to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Assistant Governor Mary Anne Lim in a ceremony held at Note Printing Australia.
The Assistant Governor received the award from IBNS board member and Melbourne-branch Vice President, Frank Robinson, and represented positive affirmation to BSP that the transformation of their banknote program is being recognised and appreciated by the global banknote community.
"I want to sincerely thank the IBNS for this honour, and all of us at BSP are delighted to win this award. This acknowledgement is evidence to us that our polymer banknote program is on track,” said Assistant Governor Lim. “I also want to thank all of you (NPA staff) for your contribution to our success. The BSP's strategic collaboration with NPA has been remarkable and your support is very much appreciated.”
The occasion presented a rare opportunity for more than 90 NPA staff to witness the special presentation, with Frank noting this was the first time that BSP had won the award since its inception in 2005 and also the first time that NPA had printed a winning banknote.
"In the 2022 competition there were a total of 19 banknotes nominated by members, but from very early on the strong voting for the 1000-Piso made it the overwhelming favourite," said Frank during his presentation. "The portrait of the Philippine Eagle is quite stunning and the design window was of great appeal. Many members, including myself, loved the blue colour also."
The IBNS consists of 2000 members worldwide, with about 10% of the membership based in Australia. Frank also noted that polymer banknotes had been highly successful over the last decade, winning eight out of the last 10 Banknote of the Year awards.

BSP RECIBE FORMALMENTE EL PREMIO AL BILLETE DEL AÑO DE IBNS EN NPA

La ocasión brindó una oportunidad única para que más de 90 empleados de NPA presenciaran tan especial presentación. Frank señaló que era la primera vez que BSP ganaba el premio desde su creación en 2005 y también la primera vez que NPA imprimía un billete ganador.
"En el concurso de 2022 hubo un total de 19 billetes nominados por los miembros, pero desde muy temprano la fuerte votación a favor del 1000 Pesos lo convirtió en el gran favorito", afirmó Frank durante su presentación. "El retrato del águila filipina es bastante impresionante y el diseño de la ventana resultó muy atractivo. A muchos miembros, incluido yo mismo, también nos encantó el color azul".
